Holiday reflection

This was my first Thanksgiving as a wife and a mother. A time to start holiday traditions. I was fortunate to spend the holiday close to home and in good health. This holiday made me reflect on my own childhood Thanksgiving traditions. We always left the state and went to my grandparents. We would leave Wednesday after school. It was so exciting loading in the car with my little brother. I couldn't wait until we were halfway there and we stopped for dinner. I would usually sleep the rest of the way. When we arrived Grandma and Grandpa would be waiting for us. It was late at night, but they were always so excited to see us. I remember feeling so special. The house would smell of baked cookies and homemade fudge. We would visit for a little while and then settle in for the night.

Grandma would get up early in the morning to get the turkey in. The house would smell so good when I woke up. A cross of turkey and coffee. The anticipation of the rest of the family had me so excited. It meant loud noise, laughter, and teasing. Uncle Mark would come and always give me a big hug. I would get to see my cousin Crystal. I usually only saw her once a year. Danny would show up next. He was always drinking a mountain dew and full of energy. Aunt Carole would arrive and fight me for the fudge. Then there was Aunt Susie. God love Aunt Susie. You could tell her anything. Nothing would shock her and she was always on your side. You could feel the love and happiness in the house. We were truly blessed to all be together. Some of us would watch the parade and others would play football or basketball outside. Most Thanksgivings we had snow.

We usually celebrated Christmas at this time. Grandma had a huge Christmas tree at her house in Ashley. We would exchange gifts and eat the Turkey dinner. After dinner we would play UNO or Scrabble. These games were very competitive. Everyone always checking to make sure the other didn't cheat. Later in the evening the whole family would go bowling. This was an activity that the adults and kids could do. It was so much fun.

Our family has changed and grown apart. Thanksgivings of that caliber do not exist anymore. Only in memory. I hope to start some new traditions with my immediate family. Yesterday was a good start. We had turkey, games, and pumpkin pie. I am thankful for the past Thanksgivings and I look forward to the future.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

But officer I just got this car

I had to make a mad dash to Target' to get pampers and wipes. We were dangerously low. So low that when the second to last diaper's tab ripped off during the change I was forced to use tape. On the way back from the store I was pleased that we made it through the store with no melt downs. I guess I forgot to signal a couple of times. The nice officer decided to stop me. He asked if there was a reason I did not signal. I said that I just got this car and I have not had the opportunity to figure out all the controls. His response, " Well mam turn signals are standard on cars." Hmmm who knew. I promised that I would signal from now on. He told me to try to be more careful.

A new use for the litter box scooper

G3 has a night routine in which he gets a bath, a massage, a story, and then the boob. During our nightly bath G3 decided to completely relax. Well, he relaxed a little too much and let everything go. I totally lost it and screamed for the husband. What do you do in these situations?

Do you:

A: Pretend nothing happened and continue the bath.
B: Grab the baby and call it a night.
C: Flush the water and floaters down the toilet and refill the tub.
D: Teach the baby how to use the litter box scooper and remove the floaters.

What do you think I did?

Photography

The husband and I have been fortunate to meet a great photographer. He will come to the house and take pictures. The man is very patient and creative. Some of the photos from early in my pregnancy were taken by Bill. He also took a first week photos. We plan to have him take all our photos for the first year. Email Bill and tell him I sent you and he will give you a deal. He would be great to use for Christmas card photos.

Go on check him out!

Spa Day

Ahh a scalp massage!

So this is what you did all day!

Momma had a spa day. The husband gave me a gift card to the spa for my birthday. I was able to use it today. I received a facial and a seaweed body rub with hydrotherapy. I cried the drive to the spa. It is so hard to leave the baby. The facial was great. The tech decided to tell me all about her birth experience. Why do people feel the need to share everything? She started to tear up when she told me her three year old son recently stopped breastfeeding. Are you kidding me? The seaweed rub was very weird. I went into a room that looked like the inside of a drive thru car wash.

She scrubbed me with salt and then turned on the water. She used a big hose and then a sprinkle system came on. Next came the Green seaweed rub. The smell was not so pleasant. The another rinse through the car wash. Next an application of Caribbean lotion. I felt all greased up. Although the trip to the spa was nice, I couldn't wait to get home to my boy. I gave him a spa night with his bath.

Cradle Crotch and other childhood diseases

I overheard the husband talking on the phone to his friend. They were talking about the baby. He believes that the baby said daddy last night. The husband was bragging about how great the baby is doing. He said that the baby only has one problem. He has cradle crotch. He went on to explain how he has flakes in his hair and that most babies get that. I started laughing. He must have been talking about cradle cap. Maybe cradle crotch is the new STD for infants who share diapers, wipes, or butt cream. You will start to see warning labels on all infant materials. We must protect our children from cradle crotch.

G3 got a new toy

G3 is not a big fan of tummy time. I bought him the Ocean Wonders Kick and Crawl Aquarium. The jury is still out on its success. You will notice in the picture that he is not on his tummy.

Interview with a nanny

Ahh! Not that one! Does she have a stripper pole in her purse mom?

So we had many responses to the nanny add. Nanny's who could not spell or speak any English were automatically eliminated. The first nanny arrived 20 minutes late. She called three times asking for directions. She is a student at SLU majoring in social work. She was able to answer all my questions correctly and come up with infant appropriate activities. The second nanny was a no call no show. The third nanny smelled like she bathed in perfume. She also thought painting and playing with cooked noodles was a good activity for an infant. Next! The last nanny arrived with her mother. She was wearing a leopard print coat with tight black leather boots. Her mother wore a short black mini skirt and a black tank top. I expected stripper music to start playing. Needless to say they did not stay in the house very long.

Though shall not covet thy neighbors nanny....

So we have an upcoming date to return to work.. I have been asking around the neighborhood and at the mommy play dates. No one wants to disclose where they got their nanny or how much they pay their nanny. They also do not want you to talk with their nanny. Finding a nanny shouldn't be this hard. I posted an add on craigslist. We will see if I get any responses. Wish me luck!

First Trip to the hair salon

G3 slept through his first trip to the hair salon. He loves the sound of the hair dryer. The magazines at the salon are good bed time stories. We also saw the first snow of the year today. After the salon trip we went to grandma and grandpa's house. We had taco night and roasted marshmallows by the fire.

Momma gotta new ride

The whole family went to the car dealer to pick out a family car. Who knew a two door car and a car seat wouldn't work?.? The car salesman was brave enough to ride with me during the test drive. I selected a 4 door VW Jetta. I wanted something a little sporty with plenty of storage. Babies come with a lot of accessories to cart around. We did however have an issue with the floor mats. Apparently not all cars come with them. My comment was, " I wouldn't buy shoes without shoelaces." The car has floor mats. I also would recommend cars come standard with floor mats, radar detectors, and snow scrapers. What do you think? It could start a new trend. Shoot me an email if you are looking for a car and I will hook you up.

Three Thermometers

G2 had a cold. It took a week for me to be contaminated. It was only inevitable that the baby would catch it. I was hacking over the poor guy as her nursed. We went through three thermometers. The first two took too long and I didn't think they worked correctly. I sent the husband out to buy a third thermometer. He bought the ThermoFocus. This is the Cadillac of all thermometers. It takes the baby's temperature with a laser light. There is no need to insert it into any holes. You can also check the temp of the room, the bath tub, and food. We had to watch an instructional DVD to figure out how to work it. We watched it three times. We gave the baby Tylenol and used the nasal aspirator ( aka the booger snatcher). He seems to be fine today. I am still sick. To add further torture to the stringent breastfeeding routine, I must have a cold with no medication. Meanwhile the husband is downing the NyQuil and sleeping peacefully.

Drinkability

I am not sure if G3 has been watching the budweiser commercials. He keeps going back and forth from breast milk straight from the tap or pumped breast milk. Its kind of like the taste great less filling. Draft or bottled.

We had an uneventful weekend. G2 is sick with the cold/flu. He has been laying around like he is dying all weekend. I have been busy using lysol on everything. I hope G3 does not get this.
